When it comes to wool and merino wool, you will have nature's very own effective insulating layer. Since wool is highly temperature-regulating a mid-layer of this material will naturally wick away sweat and condensation. As an added benefit, wool is less likely than, for example, synthetic materials to smell of sweat. Synthetic materials, such as polyester and fleece, also have their advantages. They also offer good insulation, absorb a very small amount of moisture and dry extremely quickly.
